This image of the Pieta, mother with hijab, son with keffiyeh, is one of the most striking pieces of social-political-religious art I have ever seen. Upon seeing it, we had to immediately purchase a print for our "Peace and Justice" church. This image so fully involves all of the Children of Abraham, and uses the image of ancient mother's suffering to invite them into dialogue about the present condition of the mothers suffering in Palestine. This is 2021, in the lingering aftermath of Gaza's 2018 Great March of Return, which saw scores of young men and women killed, and many countless more shot in the legs, now amputees. It is those mothers depicted in this painting. I cry for them on this Good Friday, where this image is displayed on the sidewalk in front of our church. Thank You, Katie Miranda Al Ali!!
