Elk Passing Through

Elk Passing Through

Summers in Oregon are incredible. One evening, about twenty elk wandered through my yard. They spotted me, then disappeared into the forest as quickly as they came.

It was one of those rare, grounding moments in nature that remind you you’re part of something much larger than yourself.

I captured that feeling by painting four of them in transparent layers over gold leaf on canvas—the shimmer of gold echoing the light of that evening. The contrast between the cool green of the trees and the warm brown of their coats was too beautiful not to preserve.

By putting away your screens and going for a nature walk, you can notice some pretty incredible things.. the fall colors, the way the bees sleep inside a flower, the way birds change their tune when a predator approaches.

There's so much life available if you just look for it.

The original painting is available for purchase as well as canvas prints.
